World Class Citizens ~ Life Long Learners

Welcome to Secondary School

Welcome to ISS!

In line with the vision and mission of ISS, the Secondary School teaching team endeavors to provide unique learning experiences that extend and engage students. We have a philosophy of inclusive education and our combined efforts are dedicated to individual student success. The care and support provided ensures that students are as prepared as they possibly can be for what will come after leaving ISS, whether it be moving on to another school or tertiary experience. At ISS teachers are committed to ongoing school improvement in all aspects. There is the passion to do better and certainly elicit the best possible outcomes for our students so they can become the unique young adults they are meant to be, with a clear sense of social responsibility.

Education in the Secondary School offers an opportunity for students to obtain an internationally recognized qualification. Each program offered carries a reputation for excellence in education and offers a holistic approach to education. Three programs are offered in the Secondary school, all are internationally recognized. The first is International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP) from Year 6 to Year 10. Years 11 and 12, students have the option of choosing either the Australian Capital Territories (ACT) Senior Secondary Certificate & ATAR (Australian Tertiary Entrance Statement) or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP). Programs run at the International School Suva are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). International recognition of the excellence of each of the courses and the wide-ranging variety of subjects on offer mean that students have been accepted in universities around the world and have found themselves well prepared for whatever challenge they have chosen to take on.

Similarly, teachers at ISS pride themselves on providing quality education that is not simply focused on academic scores, but one which assists students to develop the attributes typical of those in our school wide learner outcomes. We provide a strong program which includes the IB DP Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) and the International Duke of Edinburgh Award (DoEA), experiential educational excursions and extracurricular sports and activities etc. Teachers are working toward seeing our students developing the IB Learner Profile attributes of being inquirers, thinkers, communicators, courageous, knowledgeable, principled, balanced, caring, open-minded, reflective and visionary. These are schoolwide learner outcomes and these are something which is key to the kind of students that the Secondary School team would like to see matriculate from ISS. Our community of students and families from over fifty-five different countries means we can celebrate and experience different cultures and diversity. For this reason, our students are so much more than simply an account of their academic performance in examinations. The fact that many students return to the school once they have left to specifically thank their teachers is testament to their preparedness for life after school.

The Secondary School team aims to work in tandem with parents and students to achieve the best for our students and establish them as future effective members and leaders of the global community they will become part of.
